Mayor PJ Connelly of Greenville, NC reads proclamation to member of AMEXCAN.

Furthermore, since 2004, AMEXCAN has made an effort to gather proclamations from neighboring cities during Hispanic Heritage Month and encourage them to participate in commemorating this observance. This year, there have been three proclamations issued by Eastern North Carolina cities. This is part of AMEXCAN’s advocacy initiative to promote the well-being of the Hispanic community in Eastern NC.

In the proclamation, the mayor emphasizes that Hispanics comprise 10.7% of NC’s population and 6.5% of Pitt County’s population, with Greenville being the county seat and the cultural and economic hub of Eastern NC. Moreover, the mayor asserts that Hispanics play an integral and necessary role in local communities. In addition, he states that Hispanics heavily influence their local municipalities and inspire the entire state with their economic, social, and cultural contributions. For more information about the proclamation, contact Alex Urban at aurban@amexcannc.org.
